How do I send email from my own email server (using SMTP)?

To setup WriteUpp to use your own email address via SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) go to Settings->SMTP and enter the SMTP details for your email provider.

Here's a list of the SMTP settings for the most common emails services. If your provider is not listed please contact your email provider. Much as we'd like to help we can't provide support for your email service :-)

SMTP Settings For Popular E-Mail Services

Important: The data shown in the fields above is just for illustration purposes you should enter your own email address in the "Sender Email" and "smtp user" fields. You should source the other information from the article above or from your email provider. Alternatively just Google "SMTP settings for [your email client]"

Once you have entered your SMTP details click on the "Test Connection" button. The test will attempt to use the settings you have entered to send an email to the Site Administrator's email account.

When the test is complete you will see the following screen:

If you have received the "Test Connection" email click on Yes. If not, then you may wish to try again although in our experience if the connection doesn't work first time it is likely that there is some issue with the way your mail server is configured.

Important: Once you click on "Yes" ALL emails from WriteUpp will be sent from your email account. As we have no control over your email server we cannot provide any assurances that your email will be delivered and there is potentially a greater risk that your emails may be caught by spam filters.

If you wish to revert to sending email via our email servers (using Postmark, a tool that minimises the risk of emails being caught in spam filters) go into Settings->Integration and click on the link "Revert to WriteUpp Mail Server"
